Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is very upset these days and has threatened to stop blogging. King Khan enthralls US fans at Independence Day Carnival

Hurt but unfazed by his recent detention at the Newark airport, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan did what he does best at the South Asian Carnival here -- he entertained, wowed and mesmerised thousands of his ardent fans.

It was a dream come true for the fans, who were waiting eagerly to catch a glimpse of their favourite star since morning.

Not only did Shah Rukh "meet and greet" people by shaking hands, signing autographs, but he also danced and performed on their requests.

Besides King Khan, the other big names, who attended the carnival were Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Diya Mirza and Bollywood`s Bollywood`s "Bad man" Gulshan Grover.

Despite the excitement of meeting the stars, Khan`s detention at Newark Liberty International Airport on Friday was the topic of discussion among the fans at the carnival.

Many could not believe that Shah Rukh was detained for so long as he is a frequent visitor to America.

Khan had surprised his fans by saying that he did not feel like stepping on American soil anymore. He, however, played down the incident later, calling it a "routine procedure".

The episode has also attracted plenty of attention in the US with media outlets and blogs holding forth on the incident."Wrath of Profiled Khan" the New York Post said in a story while the New York Times blogged on the incident under the headline "Questioning a Bollywood VIP."

The incident was also reported extensively in the Islamic world. "Muslim name holds India Star at US airport," the portal Islam Online reported.

While thousands of fans reacted with outrage over the perceived slight to their icon, others believe that the incident was blown out of proportion.

Some also saw it as a publicity stunt for actor's upcoming movie 'My Name is Khan', which is about am autistic Muslim in the post 9/11 America.

"This is not a first trip for him and how can it happen when he is promoting his forthcoming movie, 'My Name is Khan" with a similar theme, that sounds so unreal," said Aahan Verma.

"We all love Shah Rukh Khan, but he certainly is not above the law and just because he has a global fan club one should not expect immigration officers of all countries to know who he is," said Anuva Kay, a Indian American school student in Houston.

"India should have the same laws for all Americans visiting the country because it is more vulnerable," she added.

Lily Allen could not fight back her tears last night during a concert in Finland, but the downpour was not caused by emotional hurt but physical pain.

The `Fear` singer had hurt her back after taking a fall and had to get a painkiller injection to keep her commitment to perform at the Flow Festival in Helsinki.

George Michael was driving like a madman, says eyewitness

English singer George Michael was “driving like a madman” before crashing his car into the back of a lorry on a dual carriageway, reveals an eyewitness.

The ‘Faith’ hitmaker was arrested on August 14 following the collision, which occurred just two months after his two-year driving ban was lifted.

The accident happened at 1am at Chieveley, Berks, after which George was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of drink or drugs.

He was released without charge when tests proved negative.

The 46-year-old singer has played down the crash, saying, "Neither of us (drivers) was charged because we were both stone cold sober. We both think the other is to blame so this is just an insurance fight. I don`t want my fans or my family worried by what they are reading all over again.”

Michael was driving erratically before the accident, according to lorry driver Sean Strong who saw the smash.

"He was all over the road - he was driving like crazy. He swerved past my artic (articulated lorry) so closely that he just missed me. He was shouting and screaming at the passenger seat,” a news daily quoted him as saying.

"I just knew the guy was not safe and that he was going to crash, which he did a mile or two later. I am surprised he walked away from it. He was going at some speed," he added.

Mark Lester couldn’t have fathered MJ’s daughter Paris, says ex-wife

Actor Mark Lester’s ex-wife has rubbished claims that he could have fathered Michael Jackson`s daughter Paris because he was rarely in contact with the King Of Pop.

The Oliver star had earlier revealed that he could be the 11-year-old girl’s biological dad because he donated sperm to Jackson in 1996, following a request from the superstar.

However, Lester`s former wife Jane Lester has dismissed reports, insisting her ex-husband lost touch with the Thriller hitmaker in the 1980s, and didn`t pick up the friendship again until after their youngest child, Felix, was born in 1999.

"To the best of my knowledge, Mark was not regularly in touch with Michael Jackson until two years after his daughter Paris was born,” a news daily quoted her as telling a news daily.

"I just can`t see how Mark could have donated sperm in 1996 - if he says he did then he`s living in a fantasy world.

"After we married in 1991 I vaguely remember Mark mentioning he had met Michael Jackson. But I cannot recall him even having any phone contact with him through the 1990s. He never referred to him as a close friend," she added.

At 43, Salman Khan still gets beaten up by mom

Salman Khan has often made headlines for getting into verbal and physical fights, but very few know that the 43-year-old Bollywood star still gets beaten up by his mother Salma.

"As a child, Salman was very naughty He used to get the most beating...still does," Salma told choreographer-turned-director Farah Khan on her soon-to-be-launched celebrity chat show "Tere Mere Beach Mein" going on air onSunday.

Hugh Grant thinking about retireement again

He has threatened to retire at least twice before and now Hollywood actor Hugh Grant is talking about quitting acting yet again.

Blaming a string of stage fright attacks, the 48-year-old actor says he is ready to give up his day job at last.

"I like everything about filming except the acting. I`m wonderful in rehearsals, but I have never been very good when they actually switch the cameras on," he said.

"In recent years I`ve had really bad attacks where I totally froze up. I thought that well, if I am going to get stage fright, then I am packing it in," he added.

But people are wondering whether he is really serious about retirement because Grant has this habit of threatening to quit and then signing up a movie.

Grant admits that he is slightly embarrassed with his habit. His last talk about retirement came just months after completing work on "Did You Hear About The Morgans?", his first film in two years.

Bollywood Khans react to Shah Rukh`s ordeal

After Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan was detained at Newark airport for a security check, many others like Zayed Khan and Irrfan Khan have come out with the ordeals they faced in the US because of their last names. This is what they have to say:

Zayed Khan: Of course, we Khans go through this kind of humiliation all the time. I`ve gone through it, Salman has gone through it. I`m glad people are talking about it because of Shah Rukh. There have been times when I`ve been with 17 people in a team on tour or for a shooting in the US. Out of these only one gets detained at the airport. Guess who invariably gets detained? And some Caucasian bully, who does these checkings by the book and thinks all Khans are terrorists, will tell you it`s a random check. Tell me, how can there be random checks on five US airports one after another and in all of them only yours truly gets detained for additional checking? I think there`s a big difference between being secure and being ignorant.

Iqbal Khan (TV actor): Such attacks on Khans is nothing new. These things happen at American airports. It`s time for all Muslims to let everyone know Islam means believing in God and in peace. It`s happened to me. Once I was to go to the US for a show, I was the only one who didn`t get a visa. And I was the only Muslim. However recently I applied again and I got a 10-year multiple entry visa.

Shabina Khan (dress designer): I really don`t know what happened with Shah Rukh in the US. But I definitely get into issues at the airport thanks to my surname. It`s annoying. It`s scary.

Kabir Khan (director): I was accompanying my wife in the US along with the Morani Brothers. It was a flight from LA to Washington just 15 days after 9/11. So the fear and paranoia were not totally unjustified. We were waiting for the flight to take off talking to each other in Hindi when some passengers complained that we were talking in a `strange` language. Within no time two burly FBI agents came on board and took me and my co-passengers to the front of the plane. When they got to know my name, they questioned me for more than two hours, googled my name for terrorist links and then finally allowed me to fly.

They asked me if I had been to Pakistan. I told them no. If I had told them that I had been to Afghanistan, they`d have freaked out. Two other passengers on board refused to fly with us. So they were asked to deboard. So you see post 9/11 persecution comes with its inbuilt safety measures. But I honestly think a part of the global fear is justified. We can`t blame people for being paranoid after what has happened.

Irrfan Khan: More than the physical torture, it`s the wounds of humiliation that never heal after you undergo such a horrific experience. It happened to me on two occasions. I was detained in New York and Los Angeles airport for secondary interrogation. I was outraged. I was told to quietly come into a room for questioning and identification verification. I wasn`t allowed to talk. When I tried to ask why I was being treated this way, I was told to keep quiet. I wasn`t allowed to use my phone. They said, `No, you just sit down.` All because my name was Irrfan Khan. You can`t argue or rationalise.

On a second occasion this time in New York, when I was detained I blew my top. I told this big Black American guy, `Please clear the confusion about my identity once and for all. Or don`t provide me with a visa. I don`t want to come back to the US.` The guy wanted to know if it was a threat. I was taken aback. Mira Nair had to intervene. She advised me to never counter-question them. This is the free spirit of America. This 90-minute detention changed me completely. Can you imagine what a 90-day detention can do to an innocent man thrown into jail?

Dilip Kumar: After hearing these atrocious accounts who wants to travel to such a stupid place when our beautiful India offers Kashmir`s jannat and Kerala`s luminous glory? God forbid, if we have to go to such a country.

Eijaaz Khan (TV actor): I`ve gone through similar experiences a couple of times in the US. While all my friends breezed through immigration I was questioned and had to give the address I was staying at, and for how long. My whereabouts were even checked by them later. This was after 9/11. I guess this kind of treatment is to be expected by us Khans. We`ve to take it in our stride.

Pierce Brosnan campaigns against Dolphin slaughter

Former Bond actor Pierce Brosnan is condemning the killing of dolphins for meat and urging officials in Japan to end the slaughter of the sea mammals in the country.

The Irish actor, who has been a long time environmental campaigner, has praised the work of investigative journalists who have documented the killing of dolphins in Japan in new film "The Cove". Brosnan says he was shocked and appalled to see the real life cruelty onscreen, reported a news website.

"We have long been passionate about marine mammal protection. After watching `The Cove`, we were astonished to discover that more than than 20,000 dolphins are slaughtered in Japan each year and that their meat, which contains toxic levels of mercury, is sold to consumers and in grocery stores across Japan," said the actor.

"This powerful and moving film is an urgent cry for help -- and now that the public finally knows the truth, we must demand change," he added.

Shah Rukh Khan requests fans not to take detention issue further

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh had to pay the price of being a ‘Khan’. The actor, whose detention at a US airport created uproar back home, has requested his fans not to take the issue further. However, displeasure was loud and clear from the statements he made while speaking to a news channel. "They kept telling me your name is common... and I was too polite to ask common to what," Shah Rukh said while talking about the incident.

Shah Rukh is presently in Houston where he arrived from Chicago to attend a `Meet and Greet` carnival. The actor, who was ‘inspected’ at the Newark airport on his arrival from India, said he respected the procedures the US requires incoming foreigners to follow but maintained his experience was ‘not pleasant’.

The superstar had earlier told his fans that he did not feel like stepping on US soil again. He said while everybody loves what America has to offer "but I think it needs to offer a little more warmth and speed in its processes".

Talking about the uproar over the incident, Shah Rukh said, "I didn`t mean it to be like this. Because I had to make a few calls to get out of that place, so I guess it became a big piece of news. I just like to tell people that I do understand the anger and angst and disturbance that an incident like this can cause to one`s psyche. I think it’s a little grey or black and we should not spend time on this anymore".

The actor, who is in the US to promote his upcoming film `My Name is Khan`, mingled with his fans here and signed autographs for them. Ironically, the film revolves around a Muslim character and his experiences in a post 9/11 America.

"The film`s issue is much larger than just being a stop at the immigration. It’s not ironic, may be we made the film because one thinks this is an issue that should be addressed," Khan said. Commenting further on his detention in Newark, SRK said, "I understand a country has to be a little careful specifically with the things that have happened".

But, he said, instead of doing a retina and finger scan, which is a normal procedure, the immigration authorities kept telling him that his name was "common".

"... They kept telling me your name is common... and I was too polite to ask common to what," he said. US authorities had denied that the procedure they followed with the Indian actor had anything to do with his name and described it as mere "inspection," attributing it to the delay in the arrival of his baggage.

Khan said America needed to understand that ‘it’s not an isolated parallel universe existence for this country’. “There is a whole world which makes all the good and bad that is happening. So if you are scared of violence, terrorism, all of us are responsible for it. It is not that the rest of the world is and America is not," he added.

Shah Rukh was stopped and questioned at Newark airport on his arrival from India for about two hours on Saturday and was released only after the Indian consulate intervened, an incident that caused widespread anger in India with the government saying it would take up the issue with the US.

Kerry Katona turns down rehabilitition,plans boozy holiday

Former Atomic Kitten member Kerry Katona has ignored the requests of friends to go to rehab after recent disclosure of her use of drugs, and has instead decided to go for a boozy holiday.The troubled mother of four kids apparently plans to spend some time with her kids and husband Mark Croft at Tenerife, a Spanish island in order to “clear her head".

However, similar trip in the past had turned out to be a disaster for the couple.

"Mark and Kerry have already been to Magaluf this summer. That ended in alcohol-fuelled arguments and snaps of Mark cavorting with strippers,” the BBC quoted a source as saying.

The insider said: “A boozy resort is the last place she should be heading. Everyone is worried sick but she won`t see sense."

Katona was recently filmed snorting a line of what appears to be cocaine in her bathroom, while her children were present in the house.

The footage can lead her to face social services probe over her fitness to look after her children.

A source said: "Kerry`s attitude towards the footage beggars belief. She needs to stay and face her demons but she`s running away to hide. Kerry`s kidding herself that this will all blow over. Everyone hopes she will ask for help but she seems more interested in finding out who planted a camera in her bathroom."

Shah Rukh`s questioning talk of India day parade in US

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan`s questioning at Newark Liberty International Airport by immigration officials was the talk of the annual India Day parade here. The parade is held to celebrate India`s independence.

Even before the 29th parade started at Madison Avenue and 41st Street Sunday, Mehal Kadakia, 26, a business analyst, and two friends had spent the drive to the city discussing whether Khan should have been singled out, New York Times reported Monday.

"In my opinion, they were doing their job," Kadakia was quoted as saying at a festival next to Madison Square Park after the parade.

"I`m sure as an actor travelling, he has a lot of luggage, and if that seemed suspicious, I`d rather have them check and make sure he`s OK."

Kadakia observed it`s not as if being stopped at the airport in the post-Sep 11 world is new to anyone.

"I`ve been stopped many times," he said.

Santripti Vellody, 30, a business development manager for a South Asian satellite television channel, said she was disappointed that one of India`s biggest stars had been subjected to such blatant profiling.

"It`s absolutely disrespectful to him," she said, "and it`s only based on his religion and last name -- he has a Muslim name -- and I don`t think that`s right."

Vellody said that her husband, Mohamed Roshman Manoli, also has a Muslim name and that each of the last four times that they had flown out of John F Kennedy International Airport, he had been stopped for questioning.

"I never get stopped but I have to wait for him for two hours every single time," she said. "It`s not random."

Shah Rukh Khan`s latest film "My Name is Khan" -- produced by Shah Rukh and director Karan Johar -- is set against the Sep 11, 2001 terror attacks and examines their impact on an Indian Muslim living in the US.

Miki Patel, chairwoman of the culture committee of the Federation of Indian Association that held the parade, said that she learned about Khan`s questioning during a meeting of parade organisers Saturday.

"I personally feel that the rules should apply to each and every one who enters this country -- the law is the law," said Patel, 53, a dance instructor from Edison, New Jersey.

Alleged threats from enraged music fans are said to have led Dr Conrad Murray, the doctor at the centre of the probe into Michael Jackson`s death, to go into hiding.

A lawyer for the doctor says that he now faces financial ruin after being forced to shut his clinics, and is living in fear for his life.

"Dr Murray has received a number of death threats and is laying low. He has a bodyguard," Contactmusic quoted her as saying.

Cops probing into the King of Pop`s sudden passing on June 25 are said to be considering charging Dr Murray with manslaughter, amid claims that he injected the singer with a deadly shot of powerful anaesthetic Propofol.

Murray`s Las Vegas home and his Texas storage facility were both raided by police at the end of July, and on August 11, officers from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) also investigated a Las Vegas pharmacy used by Murray in their ongoing hunt for evidence.

Beyonce taking ballet classes

Singer Beyonce Knowles is brushing up her dancing skills by secretly enrolling for ballet tutorials in New York.

Beyonce used Manhattan`s Ailey School to rehearse for her last tour and now she has checked in for an open ballet class, reported a news website.

"She came in like a regular student. No entourage and no attitude," said a source.

Frail MJ needed to be spoon-fed meals

Late Michael Jackson had become so weak in his final days that he was spoon-fed, his make-up artist has revealed.

According to Karen Faye, 53, the King of Pop was "disorientated and sickly" in his last week, and insists that the pressure of his London shows "killed" him.

She was by the ‘Thriller’ star`s side at rehearsals in Los Angeles in June for his comeback at the O2 Arena in Greenwich.

Karen told Jacko`s fans on Facebook that choreographer Kenny Ortega was feeding the singer.

"He (Jacko) was 12-20 pound heavier in April than he was in June. Kenny was cutting his chicken and feeding it to him,” the Sun quoted Karen as saying.

“This was one of my concerns. If he cannot feed himself, how could he be expected to do these shows?" she added.

Michael Jackson`s body moved to secret freezer

Michael Jackson`s mother has moved the King of Pop`s body to a secret freezer because she wanted it kept where she could visit him privately.

Jackson`s body had been temporarily entombed in Motown legend Berry Gordy`s family crypt at a cemetery in the Hollywood Hills. But it was reported that Jackson was moved under tight security to the basement of another cemetery, reported mirror.co.uk.

Katherine is apparently refusing to let her son be buried because she is terrified robbers will snatch his body. So Jackson lies alone in a small, bare brick "cold room" in a gold casket that is under perspex to keep out frost.

"She cries and says that she`s sorry and that she loves him," said a source.

There are plans to move Jackson`s body to a permanent memorial accessible to the public.

Beyonce feels uncomfortable in large groups

Singer Beyonce Knowles says she feels uncomfortable in large groups as she didn`t have a "normal social life" as a child.

"I didn`t go to regular school. I went to private school, then I was home-schooled because I was travelling with Destiny`s Child. I didn`t have a normal social life, and sometimes I think it`s why I`m insecure around a large group of people. I shut down a bit. `Black Eyed Peas` singer Fergie wants to have a child with husband Josh Duhamel.

The stunner, who was apparently reluctant about becoming a mother till now, surprisingly shared her new wish with her actor hubby while watching a basketball match.

“Fergie and Josh were at a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game. She turned to him right in the middle of it and told him she wanted a baby to make their lives complete,” Contactmusic quoted a source as saying.

Move over golf, popstar Justin Timberlake has found a new hobby and that is biking.

The `Sexy Back` singer is the latest convert to the activity, whose fans include Hollywood heartthrobs Brad Pitt, George Clooney and singer Cher, reported a news website.

The Grammy winning singer, seems to be taking his new hobby seriously as he stepped out in an all leather biker outfit and a shiny new bike in Los Angeles.

Timberlake was snapped on the bike, complete with matching chrome helmet while leaving a restaurant after lunch.

The photographers waiting outside had to be quick to get a picture while the singer was waiting at traffic lights because as soon as the lights changed he zoomed off into the distance.

Brad Pitt and fellow Ocean`s Thirteen star George Clooney are both huge motorbike enthusiasts.

Only last month Clooney was spotted riding around Italy on his bike with new girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis.

Pitt has a collection of bikes including a heavily customised chrome bike was unloaded at his LA home a fortnight ago.

Akshay, Lara swim with sharks in Blue

As if first-time director Anthony D'Souza didn't have his hands fullwith Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta and Sanjay Dutt, he decided to up theante by shooting quite a bit of Blue underwater. That, too, surrounded by sharks.

'The scariest part of Blue was the sharks. Getting them toact in my film was not easy,' said D'Souza. 'We had shark handlerspresent on the shoot to make sure that nothing untoward happened. Butit was a risky business. Everyone who was around knew that these wereliving, breathing sharks and that it was their turf.'

However, thousands of razor-sharp teeth were a small price topay to make Bollywood's first underwater movie, which promises action,adventure and plenty of thrills.

Madonna has birthday in Poland amid protests

Polish fans joined together in song to wish Madonna a happy birthday at a concert in Warsaw Saturday evening — just hours before she turned 51.

In a break between two songs, a fan held up a sign wishing her a happy birthday and audience members sang, "may you live a hundred years," a traditional Polish birthday song.

"I feel your love!" Madonna told the crowd of tens of thousands gathered on a large green field for the latest stop in her Sticky & Sweet tour.

Many of the fans near the stage also held up paper hearts. One said: "Adopt Me."

Her stop in Warsaw fell not only a day before her birthday, but also on the August 15, the Roman Catholic holiday celebrating the heavenly assumption of the Virgin Mary — timing that angered some Catholics.

Several people who objected to Madonna held up banners outside the concert venue, and a Catholic group tried to spearhead protests in past weeks hoping to force the Material Girl to change the date of the concert. It failed, however, to win support from the official church or the public. Though Poland, homeland of the late John Paul II, is mainly Catholic, young urban Poles have overwhelmingly embraced pop culture and mores.

During the concert, Madonna also paid tribute to Michael Jackson, who died in June.

A Jackson impersonator did the King of Pop`s signature moonwalk dance move while wearing a sequined jacket, white T-shirt, white glove and white socks, while a large photograph of him as a boy appeared on stage.

"Let`s give it up for one of the greatest artists the world has ever known," Madonna shouted, and then segued into a performance of her old hit "Holiday."

Aishwarya Rai down with flu-like symptoms

Actress Aishwarya Rai is down with a "chest infection" and "flu like symptoms", leaving her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan worried.

The 35-year-old actress who was shooting with husband Abhishek Bachchan in Ooty for the upcoming Mani Ratnam film 'Ravana' is down with the illness, Bachchan who is in Singapore tending to politician Amar Singh wrote in his blog.

"Aishwarya has taken ill and is down with chest infection and flu like symptoms. Had a high fever yesterday but is settling down today," wrote Bachchan.

"Its worrying to be so far away from children and not be there to look after them. Yes, they are mature and married and responsible, but children will always remain children," a concerned Bachchan added.

The 66-year-old veteran also complained that he has been suffering from a "strained back".

"Jaya left this evening for Mumbai after having spent more than a month by the side of Amar Singh ji during his ailment. I stay back till he is sound enough to travel back," he wrote.
