I`m law abiding, but US airport experience embarrassing: SRK

He is a law abiding citizen, believes in the saying "jaisa desh waisa vesh" (When in Rome, do as the Romans do) and strictly follows the rules of the country he is visiting, but Shah Rukh Khan Tuesday said that his experience at the Newark airport`s immigration counter in the US was "embarrassing".

"I am scared of the authorities and rules so I try to follow the rules of the country I travel to. Whenever I am in America, I have to report at least two hours in advance while travelling within the country for security reasons -- they ask me to take off my clothes and shoes, and I do that. But I never experienced this kind of treatment," Shah Rukh told reporters on his arrival here four days after he was detained for two hours at the Newark airport.

"There are some routine security measures - they check your finger prints and scan your retina. But the routine security process was not followed. Instead, the authorities asked me bizarre and irrelevant questions. I am not trying to make a point here, but why were security measures not followed?" he asked.

"The security of any country is important but caste, religion or race shouldn`t come in the way of security measures. You may call me a mega star, a celebrity, but basically I`m just a normal guy. But I`m lucky that I have access to friends in the (Indian) consulate whom I could call up. But there are hundreds of others who dont have this facility," Shah Rukh pointed out.

Shah Rukh also denied that the detention drama was a publicity stunt for his forthcoming movie "My Name Is Khan". He said: "I don`t think that I need publicity."

To Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh`s allegation that he had blown the matter out of proportion to publicise his forthcoming film Shah Rukh retorted with a tongue-in-cheek reply: "Amar Singh is unwell, and I pray that he recovers soon with a healthy body and strong mind."

Commenting on Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni advocating a tit-for-tat policy with the US after Shah Rukh`s detention drama, the actor said that her comments indicated that the government is looking into the larger problem.

Shah Rukh, know for his humour, also said: "If you want to give a tit-for-tat policy to American actors, then call me to frisk Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox whenever they are visiting India."

Shah Rukh says he will cut back on US visits

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said Tuesday he will cut back on visits to the United States, especially with his family, after he was questioned by immigration officials at a New York-area airport.

Khan was taken aside at Newark`s Liberty International Airport on Friday for what officials said was routine questioning. They denied he was formally detained, saying the incident lasted barely more than an hour and was prolonged only because his bag had been lost by the airline.

But the questioning set off outrage in India, where politicians, sports celebrities and film stars regularly receive VIP treatment at airports. Angry fans burned a U.S. flag and protested what they saw as ill-treatment of a beloved star, and politicians called for an investigation.

The Muslim actor was promoting his latest film, "My Name is Khan," about racial profiling after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Khan told reporters Tuesday after returning to Mumbai that the incident had been "blown out of proportion." But he said the questioning — which included requests for the names of people who could vouch for him — embarrassed him.

He said he will travel to the U.S. less frequently.

"Of course I will visit the U.S. if I have to go for my work. But I will go less often. If I have three things to do, I will club them together and go just once," he said. "And certainly, I wouldn`t like to travel with my family to the U.S."

Khan, 44, appealed to fans to stop protesting.

"Let`s put this behind us, think positively and move ahead," he told fans during a news conference.

Khan has acted in around 70 movies in a career spanning two decades. He has consistently topped popularity rankings in India for the past several years.

‘My name is Khan’ and I am proud of it: Shah Rukh

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, whose controversial trip to the US has been making headlines for quite sometime, returned home on Tuesday to a warm welcome from cheering fans.
Talking to the media about his detention and questioning at a US airport, the actor said, “I was asked bizarre questions. The US authorities asked me whether someone in the US could vouch for me. I have no bitterness and demand no apology but a streamlined procedure should have been followed as I didn’t go through retina or fingerprints scan but was asked irrelevant questions.”

Reacting to allegations that the whole episode was a publicity stunt to promote his upcoming film ‘My Name is Khan’, the actor said, “It’s disgusting if people think that it’s all a publicity stunt. My film will come after eight to nine months, publicity starts just three months before the release of a film. Moreover, this is not a matter of pride for me to publicise it. I do not want to sound pompous but Shah Rukh Khan does not need publicity.”

The actor further said, “I think it is a procedure that needs to be followed, but it was unfortunate. I don’t want to be treated in a special way but I maintain that the experience was a little uncomfortable. They are more cautious about certain races and religions. That’s the issue.”

“What happened with APJ Abdul Kalam was atrocious. He is the highest orders of the country, that was really an issue,” he added.

Reacting to fellow actor Salman Khan’s comments that such routine security check-up was okay, the actor said, “It is his experience and his point of view but it was not comfortable for me. I will go to the US again but I would limit my visits and I would not like to travel there with my family.”

On a lighter vein, Shah Rukh said, “If we go for tit for tat and follow the US security system then I would like to frisk Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox when they come to India.”

Shah Rukh, who had gone to the US for the South Asian Independence Day Carnival in Houston and Chicago, was detained at the Newark airport for questioning. The actor said that he was thoroughly questioned by officials, then some more came and asked questions about his films, film company etc. They searched his handbag and said that his name is common and is popping on computer. Although his promoter in US was explaining about him, they did not listen. When he requested to use the phone, they said it’s not allowed but gave him permission. The actor then called the Indian consulate and they promised to help him out.

The incident caused a furore in India, with the government stating that the issue will be taken up with the US. The actor will next be seen in the much hyped film `My Name is Khan`, which ironically revolves around a Muslim man and his experiences in a post 9/11 America.

SRK`s interrogation in US was a waste of time: Farah Khan

Well-known choreographer-director Farah Khan feels the authorities at the Newark airport in the US wasted precious time interrogating Bollywood super star and her close friend Shah Rukh Khan, so much so that "three-four terrorists must have entered the US within that time".

"The officer who was on duty wasted so much time, energy and resources interrogating Shah Rukh that three-four terrorists must have entered the US within that time," Farah told reporters here.

"That officers wasted the time. They should have just gone and searched his name online and they would have known within five minutes who he is. Shah Rukh also ended up wasting time and the American government also wasted so much time," she added.

Farah, who was in the capital for the launch of her celebrity chat show "Tere Mere Beach Mein" to be aired on STAR Plus, said that even though it was a mere security check, it shouldn`t have taken so long.

"What wrong was Shah Rukh going to do there? What were they doing for so long? I agree that there should be strict security, but when he had his passport, work permit, it didn`t make sense. Just because his name is Muslim, how can they take so long?" she said.

However, unlike many other celebrities with a Muslim name, Farah says she has never experienced such racial bias during her visits to the US or any other country.

Farah and Shah Rukh teamed up in hits like "Main Hoon Na" and "Om Shanti Om".

Jessica Simpson’s lawyers issue legal warning to US tabloid

American singer Jessica Simpson’s lawyers are said to have issued legal warning to a US tabloid for publishing untrue stories about her love life.

American magazine The Star recently reported that Simpson was planning a tell-all book about her life, wherein she might reveal intimate details about her previous romances, including her marriage to singer Nick Lachey, reports the Daily Express.

But representatives for Simpson insist that the story was not true, and her lawyers have now issued a warning letter to the publication, urging editors to issue a retraction and an apology.

According to documents obtained by GossipCop.com, the star’s legal team called the stories “unseemly and scandalous”, and ordered the magazine to “cease and desist from publishing any further false and misleading allegations concerning Miss Simpson.”

Simpson previously threatened legal action against US magazine OK! in early 2008, relating to a false article about her relationship with now ex-boyfriend Tony Romo.

Lady Gaga asked to act respectful in "holy" Israel

Pop singer Lady Gaga has announced that she will curb down her scandalous ways as a mark of respect while performing in the Jewish country of Israel.

The `Poker Face` hitmaker, who is famous for her outrageous outfits and equally scandalous stage acts, has vowed to be respectful while in Israel and can`t wait to see "sacred and holy" Jerusalem, reported Contactmusic.

The 23-year-old blonde said that her visit to the holy city will be "an emotional and spiritual experience".

However, the singer, who plans to swim in the DeadSea, has admitted that she won`t be able to curb all her wild behaviour and has confessed she might "get drunk in Jerusalem".

Lady Gaga, who will perform the last show of her `Fame Ball` tour in Tel Aviv tomorrow, is not the first star ordered to tone down their image during a visit to a religiouscountry.

Pop singer Beyonce Knowles cancelled her concert in Malaysia in October 2007 after she was told to follow the Muslim country`s strict dress code.

Gwen Stefani was also told to cover up during her Malaysian concert in August 2007. The flamboyant star wore sober outfits but called it a "major sacrifice".

Madonna was warned about her raunchy stage show for her concert in Russia`s St. Petersburg earlier this month.

A Walt Disney World stunt performer died after an accident while rehearsing for the Indiana Jones show at the Hollywood Studios theme park in Orlando.

A Disney spokeswoman says the stunt performer was rehearsing yesterday evening for the "Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular" and was hurt while doing a tumbling roll. He was taken to the hospital and later died.

Govt must take up Shah Rukh detention with US, says Lalu

RJD chief Lalu Prasad today said government should take up with the US the detention of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan at Newark airport.

Describing Khan as his younger brother, Prasad said he is a good artiste.

"On one hand, there is an impression that our government is getting closer to America and on the other, such incidents are taking place. Earlier, former president A P J Abdul Kalam was frisked by US airlines staff," he told reporters.

To a question whether he agreed with Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh criticising Khan over the issue, he replied in the negative.

Sean Penn’s wife has "no plans to reconcile"

Actor Sean Penn’s efforts to save his marriage seem to have gone in vain.

The ‘Milk’ star had withdrawn his application for a legal separation from wife Robin Wright in June and walked out of two movies in a bid to spend more time with his family.

However, reports claim that the Oscar winner’s efforts have been fruitless as Robin declares that she has "no plans to reconcile."

"They`ve raised two wonderful children. There are no regrets," the New York Post quoted her spokeswoman as saying.

Robin had earlier revealed that their marriage has survived troubled patches because it is “laid on a strong foundation of love”.

She said that they have worked hard on their relationship, which is why they could over come troubled patches, including two aborted divorce attempts.

Katie Price bans Andre from calling her Jordan

Former glamour model Katie Price, 31, has banned her estranged husband Peter Andre from calling her Jordan.

She also forced him to remove any mention of her glamour girl moniker from his TV documentary, as ITV2 chiefs were concerned any references to “Jordan” might be deemed “derogatory”.

They also ordered a voice-over to be re-edited before the show, ‘Peter Andre: Going It Alone’, went out last night.

It comes after the mum-of-three also banned Andre, 36, from using any footage of his stepson, Harvey in the 90-minute special.

“Considering she’s made her fortune from being Jordan, all this is a little ironic to say the least,” the Mirror quoted a source as saying.

“But Pete just doesn’t want to get involved in a public slanging match,” the source added.

A six-minute, foul-mouthed phone rant was also “censored” from the show, at the behest of Jordan’s lawyers.

Jewel`s return to Alaska sparks resentment

Jewel would like to set the record straight: She did not bail on Alaskans when two shows were canceled many years ago. And, yes, she`ll certainly show up at concerts scheduled this week.

"I was on tour on both occasions already and I`ve never double-booked anything in my life," she says of long-standing reports that she canceled a New Year`s Eve concert to ring in 2000 as well as an appearance at the Alaska State Fair in 1996, when she was touring with Neil Young.

The 35-year-old singer-songwriter, born Jewel Kilcher, said she was never booked for the shows by her agency that she knew of and was surprised when people asked about her going to Alaska. It bothers her that so many Alaskans believe she abandoned the shows — some airing their resentments quite vociferously.

Her Alaska roots "a creative, independent, freethinking woman," says Jewel, who was 6 when she began performing with her father in her hometown of Homer.

After leaving Alaska, she was living in a van in San Diego before vaulting from obscurity with her 1995 debut album, "Pieces of You," and hits like "You Were Meant for Me" and "Who Will Save Your Soul."

Jewel has recorded seven other albums since, the latest a collection of mostly original lullabies released in May. She`s currently working on a second country album — the first, "Perfectly Clear," debuted at No. 1 on Billboard`s charts last year — as well as a second book of poetry.

"I consider myself a product of Alaska," she says in a telephone interview from the 2,000-acre ranch in Stephenville, Texas, that she shares with her husband, rodeo star Ty Murray. "The love and the debt that I feel to my home state — you always want your hometown to be the proudest of you and so it`s heartbreaking to hear people say snarky things."

Alaskans rushed to bash her in response to a small blurb in newspapers announcing the concerts, many still seething at the perception that Jewel turned her back on the state when she became famous. Jewel is set to perform at a benefit in Homer on Wednesday to raise money for a local program for young artists, following the next two nights with performances at Anchorage`s Atwood Concert Hall.

"She burned this bridge a long time ago. Take a hike, Jewel!" wrote one online reader of the Anchorage Daily News.

Rene King, who grew up in Homer, remembers Jewel singing at school assemblies. King, who now lives in Anchorage, is not a fan even though she calls the singer`s voice beautiful. As far as she`s concerned, Jewel has done Alaska wrong.

"When she progressed in her career, I just think she betrayed the state," she said.

Ticket sales for the Anchorage concerts aren`t exactly flying out of the box office. About half of the tickets for the 2,000-seat Atwood have been sold for the two nights, says local promoter Dan Fiacco. Tickets are $50.50, with 50 cents going to Project Clean Water, a charity Jewel started in 1997.

"Alaskans don`t let go of grudges very easily," Fiacco said. "Also, Anchorage in general is kind of a last-minute market."

The hometown folks in Homer are more forgiving.

People quickly snapped up the 450 available tickets for the benefit at the town`s high school theater, according to Asia Freeman, director of the local Bunnell Street Arts Center. She adds: "People are positive and thrilled."

Jordan ‘becomes target of Spanish kidnap plot’

Jordan, aka Katie Price, is reportedly facing the threat of being at the centre of a Spanish kidnap plot.

The glamour girl, worth 30 million pounds, was said to have caught the eye of Russian gangsters, who were allegedly planning to snatch her while she visits Marbella to promote her KP Equestrian range.

The 31-year-old has purportedly turned to her cage-fighter boyfriend Alex Reid for protection against any possible threat.

“The kidnap threat is a real worry and Kate feels much safer when Alex is around,” the Daily Star quoted a source as saying.

“He is a muscular man and a trained fighter who can watch her back at all times.

“Kate’s a tough woman but this is bound to really frighten her and convince her to take her boyfriend along for support.

“She will definitely feel much better having him on hand to double up as a bodyguard and scare off the mobsters,” the source added.

The star’s spokesman said the trip maybe dropped if the threat worsened, adding: “Kate would not make any trip unless she and the people around her felt 100 per cent sure of her security.”

Filmmakers looked at me differently before: John

Hit film 'New York' has completed 50 days at the box office and actor John Abraham says the film industry is looking at him differently now - from being termed as expressionless by critics, he is now being praised for emoting on screen. "Can you beat that... there was so much negativity thrown about me over the years, but I was keeping my head down and continuing to pick the best from what came my way. I’m glad I did `New York`. It just changed the way filmmakers are looking at me today," John told reporters. Directed by Kabir Khan, ‘New York’ was the biggest earner of the year before ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ arrived. A clean hit at the box office, this Yash Raj production boasted of critical as well as commercial success. "The film helped me in a way that today even those people from the industry are calling me who have never done that before. I’m not holding any grudges though... what’s the point in doing that?" said John. With harsh criticism coming someone’s way, isn’t it natural to have bitterness? "No, I have actually never been bitter. Instead I have only tried to be as humble as possible, put my head down and work hard. I guess the result is a film like `New York`. I hope to be doing many more such performance-oriented films. I work for appreciation more than anything else and I guess my time has started now," said John. Known more for his physicality, courtesy movies like "Dhoom" and the recent "Dostana", it was a welcome shift for John to see critics warming up to his acting abilities. "What a relief it was...my physicality has been so overpowering but thankfully people looked beyond that in `New York` and talked about my performance too," said the actor who had earlier impressed audiences in Deepa Mehta’s Oscar-nominated `Water`. After movies like ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Kabul Express’, John got an opportunity to work with Yash Raj Films again in "New York". "All credit to Adi (Aditya Chopra) who put so much faith in me and roped me in for ‘New York’. I remember telling Adi and Kabir (Khan): give me more of second half in the film and I will make sure that there won’t be a single moist eye in theatre. As you see, the climax is still being remembered for being such a heart-wrenching affair." Right now the actor is investing a lot of himself in his next ‘1-800 Love’. The film is being directed by Abbas Tyrewala and produced by Madhu Mantena of ‘Ghajini’ fame. "This is yet another special film for me. We can’t go wrong with the film as we have made 200 percent sure that we’ve got everything right on the writing at the pre-production stage itself. In fact, I went through these formal script workshops for the film which was such a great experience," he said. John can’t be seen resting though. Before the end of year, he will have one more of his films hitting the screens - David Dhawan’s "Hook Ya Crook", which is set for a December 11 release. A UTV Motion Pictures production, ‘Hook Ya Crook’ also stars Genelia D’Souza, Kay Kay Menon, Shreyas Talpade and Sharad Kapoor with a special appearance by cricket skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The film is set in a prison and revolves around a cricket match played among the inmates.

Hrithik Roshan practices one-hour speech therapy daily

With his Greek god looks, sculpted physique matched with a charming personality and a toned up torso, Hrithik Roshan might be the ideal mate ladies would vouch for. But the actor who has wooed us all with his killer looks and dazzling performances has some dark secrets marring his perfectionism. Shocking as it may seem, it has now emerged that Hrithik practices speech therapy for one hour every day for he fears that he might begin stammering again. For those who are stunned, let us inform you that the actor used to stammer from the age of six and it was only after intense speech therapy classes that he overcame the flaws in his speech.

Speaking about his speech problems on Farah Khan’s show Tere Mere Beech Mein, Hrithik said, “I would repeat the alphabets A-Z in all the different forms. I remember once, I had even practiced for 36 hours so, I could tell my cook what I wanted to eat."

What’s more is that this is the first time that Hrithik has ever spoken so elaborately about his problem. Speaking to Farah, the actor openly talked about the troubles he had faced while growing up, as well as when he was in the industry, due to his speech worries.

"I was getting the Best Debut Actor for my first movie in Dubai and I wanted to say, `I love you Dubai` in my speech in the award function. But I couldn`t say `Dubai`. I wanted to practice saying `Dubai` but for that I had to scream Dubai loudly. I couldn`t do that in my hotel room because my voice was being heard outside. I went to the bathroom and yelled `Dubai` but even then, it could be heard by people outside. Thankfully, there was a big cupboard in the room. I locked myself up in the cupboard and practiced saying `Dubai.` Finally, at the awards function, I was able to say that with a flow", he added.

Indian-American Muslims ask societies to shun racial profiling

The Indian-American Muslim community today said the detention of Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan at the Newark airport last week demonstrates the deficiencies and arbitrariness of racial profiling in the US.
"Frisking of India`s former President APJ Abdul Kalam that happened in the recent past highlights the arbitrariness in profiling as it even failed to consider the importance of the office of Presidency. Detention of Shah Rukh Khan, an icon of Bollywood, is just another example of failure of the system," said Rasheed Ahmed, president of Indian Muslim Council-USA.

In a statement, Ahmed urged all civil societies to shun racial profiling and redefine controls in necessary security programmes to be fair and unbiased to all regardless of their religion, cast, creed and colour.

"Profiling, often based on grounds of religion and ethnicity, is ineffective and results in undue detention of innocent people," Ahmed added.

Hrithik is wheelchair-bound

That Hrithik Roshan is a perfectionist is a well-known fact. After pulling off performances as diverse as a physically challenged protagonist in Koi Mil Gaya, a superhero in Krrish, and a proud-yet-soft emperor in Jodhaa Akbar with utmost ease. Now Hrithik has taken on the daunting task of playing a wheelchair-bound paraplegic in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Guzaarish. To play the performance to a T, the actor has been moving around his house in a wheelchair to prepare for the role. A source close to the star says, "Hrithik feels that Guzaarish is one of the toughest roles that he has landed and wants to be thoroughly prepared for the challenge. It is not easy for any actor to sit and act throughout the film in a wheelchair." Besides, one has to deliver the exact emotions and movements that such a person has so as to not caricaturise that persons disability. Hence, Hrithik has bound himself in a wheelchair at home. Whenever he is around, he is sitting on his wheelchair and roaming around the house. Besides eating and reading while sitting on the wheelchair, he also plays with his children while on the wheelchair." The informer further says, "For hours he practises in front of the mirror while on the wheelchair. Apparently, he even wants to try coming down the stairs in his wheelchair." While Hrithik remained unavailable for comment (insiders say he cant talk about the project at all), when we contacted his father Rakesh even he chose to remain mum neither confirming nor denying the news.

Katrina Kaif and John Abraham together again?

One cannot deny the fact that the audience loved the onscreen pairing of Bollywood's hottest celebrities John Abraham and Katrina Kaif in their recently released ‘New York'.

Also the rumours about their clandestine affair during the shoot of New York have been doing the rounds lately.

Though they both ardently deny it but what cannot be denied is that Katrina's relationship has not been the same with her beau Salman Khan since then.

Latest is that the director of ‘Dev D' Anurag Kashyap has signed John Abraham for his next film.

Buzz is that the director is making a series of films based on life in Mumbai and officially John is the only one signed up officially.

Kashyap has also sent the script to Katrina Kaif who apparently loves it. But she is in double frame of mind for signing up the film. The reason stated is that she is not sure whether she wants to be paired opposite John Abraham again.
