Shakira chooses songs that suit her hips

Popstar Shakira has a weird way of choosing her songs. She gives a song go ahead only if it makes her hips move because if she can`t groove to the music no one else will. The `Hips Don`t Lie` hitmaker uses an unorthodox method to ensure her latest tracks reach her high pop standards, if they don`t make her dance, she scraps them, Contactmusic reported.

"I`m not a trained dancer. I did a little bit of gymnastics when I was 12 - everything else it`s just me feeling the music. But I do have an unorthodox ways to approve my music or test it," the 32-year-old singer said.

The Grammy-award-winning singer make sure she connect to the music when she is recording her songs.

"When I`m in the studio and I`m producing my own music, I`ve got to make sure I connect to it at a physical level. My body has to move and my hips have to move and if I don`t see that kind of reaction, that physical reaction, then I know that something is not working," Shakira says.

The Columbian beauty is also proud of her ageing body and enjoyed the raunchy moves in her latest song `She-Wolf`.

"I`m less shy now that I`ve hit my 30s. After that happens you feel a little bit more free, you accept yourself in many different ways and you`re more comfortable in your own flesh," Shakira adds.

Jordan’s lover Alex Reid livid over her text to Brazilian toy boy

Former model Katie Price’s lover Alex Reid reportedly became livid when he came to know about her lewd texts to her former secret Brazilian toy boy.

After it was revealed that Jordan had an affair with 25-year-old banker Andre Pinto, her cage fighter boyfriend, Reid, 34, decided to question her about it.

Pinto had revealed that Jordan only wanted sex in the dark, hated having her boobs touched, demanded he sent her naked snaps and had sent him vulgar text messages.

“Alex was shocked by the explicit texts. He wasn’t happy and let Katie know. She had a lot of explaining to do,” the Sun quoted a source close to Reid as saying.

Reid’s agent Chris Herbert added, “The contents of the texts were flagged up to Alex. He has no comment.”

Actress Sakai indicted over drug possession

Prosecutors indicted Japanese actress and singer Noriko Sakai today for alleged amphetamine possession, brushing aside concerns that the case could go cold as only a small amount was found at her home.

The prosecutors are expected to file an additional indictment on a stimulant use charge on Sakai, 38, as the police have sent the corresponding papers.

The 0.008 gram of amphetamines that was seized from Sakai`s apartment room fell short of the average 0.03 gram that habitual users do in one time, leading some experts to question the possibility of indictment.

But prosecutors went ahead after weighing the fact that the amphetamines were carefully wrapped in aluminum foil and Sakai said she "kept them to use them later," according to investigative sources.

A urine test conducted on Sakai after her arrest on August 8 was negative, but traces of amphetamines were later detected from her hair samples.

The former pop idol has told investigators she began using amphetamines after being encouraged by her husband Yuichi Takaso, 41, and also said she fled to erase traces of amphetamines from her body after her husband was questioned
by police for alleged amphetamine possession.

Britney ‘takes break from Jason Trawick’

Britney Spears has reportedly decided to take a little time off from her alleged relationship with Jason Trawick.

According to sources, the singer, who is currently on her Circus world tour, has told her current flame and longtime agent she wants to spend some time with herself.

“They are taking some time apart,” Contactmusic quoted a source as telling a magazine.

Another insider added, “She told him she needed to get back on her own two feet before moving forward. Jason was disappointed, but he understood."

However, it may not necessarily mean that the relationship is over.

The insider added, "Jason`s always loved her, (even) since the Justin Timberlake days, so he won`t let her go easily. He`s giving her space - that`s what she`s asked for."

Mischa Barton reveals what led to her stint in rehab

British actress Mischa Barton has revealed what led to her being admitted into a rehab.

Barton, 23, revealed that the travelling she had to do abroad for her work, and the surgery she had to undergo to remove four of her wisdom teeth, was just too much for her to handle, and she ended up getting admitted into Cedars.

“Yeah, I went through a tough spot where everything compounded
on me, and it was like a perfect storm, like everything was happening to me at once,” Time Out New York quoted her as saying in an exclusive interview.

“The show, travel and then this fairly routine surgery that went wrong—it’s still just healing. But I had to get through it without proper painkillers because I couldn’t take those during work. So it’s been a nightmare.

“I was down in the dumps about everything there for a while. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom about things and have to get the most stressed-out just to feel better again.

“I got completely stressed-out and couldn’t handle everything, and now I feel really in control,” she added.

Asked whether she had an official nervous breakdown, Barton revealed that she had no idea what happened.

“I don’t know. I don’t know. I had a friend who had a quasi–nervous breakdown, but I’m not sure it’s the same thing. I’m not sure I’m capable of a full-on nervous breakdown, but it was pretty bad,” she said.

“It didn’t last that long. It was more about the pain. I have a newfound respect for people who have chronic pain. I started getting migraines,” she added.

Lindsay Lohan facing legal trouble over stolen jewellery

Hollywood actress Lindsay Lohan has been accused of not returning USD 2 million worth of jewels by a store, which has now threatened legal action against the starlet.

The `Mean Girls` actress has reportedly told the bosses of XIV Karats, who had loaned the jewels to her, that the gems were stolen from her safe when her house was burgled last week, Radar Online reported.

"They`ve disappeared. XIV are not happy about it. The jewels were in Lindsay`s care and they were only on a loaner, they were expected to be returned. If something is not resolved soon there will be legal action taken," a source said.

Lohan is not new to missing jewellery scandals as she was linked to gems stolen from a photo shoot for `Elle` magazine in Britain earlier this summer but which was later dismissed as a false report.

"Lindsay didn`t take anything from them. They lent her jewelry and she has to give it back to them. That`s all I know. She has no intention of keeping any of it. So I guess they`re sorting it out," Lohan`s father Michael Lohan had said.

Bipasha was nicknamed `Lady Goonda` as a child

Nicknamed `Lady Goonda` by her peer group during her school days in Kolkata, actress Bipasha Basu says she used to beat everyone around trying to act smart with her."I used to keep a stick in my hand and straighten all the colony boys if they acted smart. I used to be very short as a child and I was the monitor in school. When the tall boys would be upto mischief, I`d jump on their back during breaks and pull their hair and beat them up," the Bollywood star revealed.

In her earlier days in Mumbai, Bipasha used to keep a hammer in her purse to protect herself from all danger, the Bollywood actress told director-turned-television host Farah Khan on Star Plus` new chat show `Tere Mere Beech Mein`, to be broadcast this Sunday.

"I used to carry a huge bag. In it was a pillow and a hammer. After late night rehearsals and fashion shows, I would tell the taxi driver to drop me at my paying guest accommodation at Bandra.

"I`m geographically challenged..I don`t have a very good road sense so I`d get into the cab, take out my pillow and go to sleep," the 30-year-old actress said while adding that she never got a chance to use the hammer.

MJ’s skin doctor admits he could be Prince, Paris` dad

Michael Jackson’s skin doctor has refused to undergo DNA test to confirm if he fathered the star`s two oldest kids, insisting he`s "well aware" he could be the dad.

Dr Arnold Klein fuelled rumours he`s the biological father of Prince,12, and Paris, 11, when he appeared on TV in the aftermath of Jackson`s 25 June (09) death, and claimed he wasn`t their dad "to the best of my knowledge".

Klein fuelled the rumours when he turned up unannounced at a guardianship hearing, where the ‘Thriller’ hitmaker’s mother Katherine was awarded custody of the kids.

Although he admitted he could well be the father, Klein says he has no interest in finding out for sure.

"There was a possibility that the two older kids could be biologically linked to Dr Klein," the Daily Express quoted Klein`s lawyer Mark Vincent Kaplan as telling UsMagazine.com.

While talking about Klein’s appearance at the custody hearing, the attorney reveals, "Dr Klein wanted to assert a request that he had concerns.

"He had an agreement with Michael Jackson that if anything happened to Michael Jackson... Dr Klein would do what he could to see that they were protected."

The lawyer reveals his client is refusing to undergo a DNA test, insisting Jackson was their true father, and he has no interest in challenging the court`s decision to grant Katherine Jackson custody.

"It would serve no helpful purpose for the children to be distracted from believing Michael Jackson is not the father in every possibility... It is not something Dr Klein feels he is interested to establish,” said Kaplan.

"It would serve no purpose other than creating distraction or noise. It is not going to help the children, other than to solve the answered question, which is a selfish motive to see who the ultimate provider of the 13 chromosomes (is)," he added.

Hindus and Jews praise Madonna for Roma comments

Hindus and Jews have applauded Queen of Pop Madonna who was booed and jeered by thousands of fans at a show in Romania on Aug 26, 09, after she protested the treatment of Roma gypsies in the country onstage.

Cheers gave way to jeers, when the ’Material Girl’ hitmaker paused midway before a sell-out crowd of about 60,000 in Bucharest during her song, part of her ongoing ‘Sticky and Sweet’ world tour, and touched on the plight of Roma people, showing the deeply entrenched prejudice against Roma in Europe, reports the Daily Express.

She said: "I`ve never been to Romania before and I am happy to be here. But I found out that there is a lot of discrimination against gypsies in eastern Europe and that makes me very sad, especially because we believe in acceptance, gypsies, homosexuals, people that are different. It makes me very sad. Everyone must be treated the same, don`t forget that."

However, Hindu and Jewish leaders in her native America have come out in support of the singer.

In a joint statement, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed and Rabbi Jonathan B Freirich have praised Madonna for at least trying to get a message across.

It reads, "Romania and Europe should apologise for the blatant show of prejudice shown towards Roma brothers and sisters when Madonna spoke against Roma discrimination during her concert in Bucharest.

"The alarming condition of Roma people is a social blight for Europe and the rest of the world as these people face social exclusion, racism, substandard education, hostility, joblessness, rampant illness, inadequate housing, lower life expectancy, unrest, living on desperate margins, language barriers, stereotypes, mistrust, rights violations, discrimination, marginalisation, appalling living conditions, prejudice, human rights abuse and racist slogans. "

"It`s like an undeclared apartheid... The Roma issue should be one of the highest priorities of the human rights agenda of Europe and (the) world," they added.

Zed and Rabbi Freirich have urged other Hollywood and entertainment celebrities of the world not to stay apathetic and silent spectators and use their status to highlight the apartheid conditions faced by about 15-million Roma people of Europe.

Gwyneth Paltrow on secret mission to become next Martha Stewart

Gwyneth Paltrow is on a secret mission to change her image, and become the next Martha Stewart, says a source.

The actress is thinking of creating her own lifestyle brands for women and families and cut back to doing just one movie every year.

In fact, her husband and Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin has dubbed Gwyneth`s appointments to plan her takeover of the lifestyle sector her "Martha Stewart meetings".

"Her plan is to stay visible in the occasional film, but to create products for real women. She is working on new products for her own beauty line under Estee Lauder and looking at different products for moms at home that she can tie to her website, GOOP,” Fox News quoted the insider, who works with Paltrow, as saying.

The source even said that the ‘Iron Man’ star had new product lines all ready for launch.

"Her charity clothing line for ZOEtees, which will benefit Kids Company, is about to debut, and that was a major project. Other products will follow suit,” said the insider.

However, the source said that though Martin lightly mocks Gwyneth`s big plans, but he never asks her to stop them.

"She still spends plenty of time with him and Moses and Apple and she continues to be a very protective and present mother,” said the source.

But, the pal said that stopping her was not possible, because she had big plans on her agenda.

"She has become a power multi-tasker, so she`ll take meetings while she`s sitting around her movie sets. Gwyneth wants to create an empire, but her first priority is always to her family. She is finding ways to merge the two so that other women and mothers will be able to do the same,” said the insider.

Avril Lavigne worried about raunchy moves

Popstar Avril Lavigne is losing sleep over her wild holiday antics which have been captured on film by paparazzi as she fears that the raunchy pictures will be published.

The `Complicated` hitmaker spent the last weekend partying in New York`s Hamptons district, but was concerned that some photographers trailing her might have clicked her dancing with her friends, a news webstie reported.

"Avril was having a wild time, just dancing and really letting her hair down. After a while she seemed to get worried, and kept running up to the photographers and asking to see the pictures they took," a source said.

It has been claimed that the 24-year-old singer spent time at various nightclubs with several "male admirers" as she is going through a rough patch with her `Sum 41` rocker husband Deryck Whibley.

"She wanted to get away from Deryck and have a weekend to herself," the source added.

The couple who have been married for three years have not been pictured together since December last year.

At least 12 people were injured when police used canes to disperse fans protesting after filmstar Salman Khan did not turn up for a scheduled programme at a mall here.

A large number of people had gathered at the Shopprix mall where the Bollywood actor and his brother Sohail Khan were due to inaugurate a jewellery shop on Thursday.

At least 12 persons suffered injuries, eyewitnesses said. However, no police officials spoke on the matter.

SRK gets Shahid, Priyanka together for MJ tribute

From Shahid Kapoor to Vishal-Shekhar, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has roped in the biggest names in the business for a music video to pay tribute to the late pop legend Michael Jackson.

Vishal Dadlani of Vishal-Shekhar duo told repoters that it was Shah Rukh`s idea to get a tribute rolling for the music legend who passed away on June 25 this year.

"The entire world was upset about his demise and so were Shekhar (Ravjiani) and I. We happened to meet Shah Rukh and he also expressed his thought about doing something that would be befitting the stature of the man who entertained us for decades. This is how the idea around the music video was born," said Vishal.

It was decided that the music video titled "Make it Large - A tribute to Michael Jackson" would be launched Aug 29 to coincide with Jackson`s 51st birthday. While Vishal also wrote the lyrics for the song, some of the best singers in the industry - Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, KK and Shreya Ghoshal - were roped in to sing.

"For the moment, the idea is to launch the music video across all music channels just for one day. It is available on Red Chillies Entertainment website though," said Vishal who is currently holidaying in London.

Directed by Samar Khan, "Make it Large - A tribute to Michael Jackson" is also special since it features Prabhu Deva who is yet again seen at his dancing best.

Also, the video features testimonials on Michael Jackson from Shah Rukh Khan himself along with Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Anoushka Sharma and Yuvraj Singh.

Vishal and Shekhar would also be allowing free download of the song at their website beginning August 29.

"The video wasn`t created for making money. It`s a tribute and I am sure there are millions out there who would want to grab a copy of the song for themselves. We are more than glad to share our sentiments with the rest of the world," said Vishal.

I`m not getting married this year: Shilpa Shetty

Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty is upset over news that she is set to tie the knot with London-based businessman Raj Kundra by the year end. She clarifies that she isn`t getting married this year.

"I`ve said before, I will make an official announcement the day my parents decide on my marriage date and I promise the press will have at least a month to celebrate the announcement. So to set the record straight, no I`m not getting married this year. Yes, I am looking at next year, but date not decided," Shilpa posted on her blog www.shilpashettylive.com/blog/.

A British newspaper reported Thursday that the actress would be getting married between September and December in Britain after her father, Surendra Shetty, wrote so in an application to an Indian court.

But Shilpa has slammed the news. "I am sick and tired of people calling me to clarify after they`ve put it as breaking news on some channels and wasted reams of paper on concocted news articles," she said.

Shilpa is also upset over the leakage of the details her father gave to the court to acquire his passport.

"My poor dad is already having a tough time every time he has to travel abroad and has to apply for his passport, and as alway it`s harrowing enough for him to go back and forth every time for his passport...," she said.

Surendra Shetty`s passport was reportedly confiscated after he was charged with threatening a business associate he claimed owed money to his daughter. Since then, he and his wife Sunanda have only been able to travel overseas with the court`s permission, which is why he applied for the passport on the alleged pretext of Shilpa`s wedding.

"My dad`s 67 and ageing, please let the poor man live in peace and dignity, it`s annoying. I request the press to report responsibly and not make any baseless assumptions," stated Shipa.

I do not advise Shruti, says Kamal Hassan

National award-winning actor-turned director Kamal Hassan says he does not advise his daughter Shruti Hassan on her acting career, as he himself never liked to be advised.

"I have never given any tips or advice to Shruti, as I would not like to be advised at her age. She has taken her own course, she could have very well taken up music instead of acting. If she asks for advice, then probably I could give her some reference points," says the Tamil superstar.

Shruti made her debut in Bollywood this year with `Luck`, which did not do well at the box office and now the multi-talented actress is composing the music for her father`s next film `Unnaipol Ooruvan`, a Tamil adaptation of Niraj Pandey`s `A Wednesday`. She has also roped in her younger sister Akshara to choreograph a video for the same.

"Shruti is trained in classical music, although she is more into Rock and Jazz. Akshara has just started off, and she has a long way to go," says the doting father.

Although `Unnaipol Ooruvan` is a remake of `A Wednesday`, Hassan insists that his version of the film is different.

"My Wednesday is a different Wednesday, it could be a Thursday or a Friday. India is a democracy and the politics here changes from state to state, so my film is also made with
a different rhetoric," says the actor, who was in the capital to attend a screening of his film `Hey Ram` marking his 50th year in Indian cinema.

The 55-year-old actor who debuted with `Kalathoor Kannammaa` as a child artist in 1960 has acted in about 150 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and Bengali.

The actor, who made his directorial debut with the superhit comedy `Chachi 420`, says that the audience are his driving points and he enjoys directing a film more than
acting.

"The audience drives me because they decide whether a film is good or bad. It is magical to watch your performance along with the audience. I make films for that experience," he
says.

"Directing is more interesting because the story is under your control, and also you can see the film while you are making it. You get a hand on your own creation, instead of
carrying a load on your back," he adds.

The Tamil superstar who dons a number of hats at the same time, that of an actor, a director, producer and a singer insists that his life lacks balance.

"The beauty of my work is absolute lack of balance. If I try to strike a balance, I would have to see a psychiatrist. For the past 20 years I have had a holiday time, as work has
become enjoyment for me," says Hassan.

The actor-turned director, who has helmed comic capers like `Chachi 420` as well as serious films like `Hey Ram`, says that he does not make movies to deliver a message.

"My process of making a movie is like chatting after reading a newspaper. I cannot change the society but my medium reflects the society. I do not deliver any message through my films," he adds.

Gwyneth, 36, is modelling herself on US entrepreneur Martha Stewart.

"She is working on new products for her own beauty line under Estee Lauder and looking at different products for moms at home that she can tie to her website, GOOP," added the source.

``Only 3 detectives are investigating MJ`s death``

The reason behind Michael Jackson`s death case taking so long is that it is being investigated by only three detectives, sources say.

"There are only three detectives from LAPD`s homicide division assigned to the case," the Sun quoted a source as saying.

The insider added: "This is one of the reasons the investigation is ongoing."

In fact the overworked cops have remained so busy that they have not yet interviewed security officer Alberto Alvarez, who made the 911 call as the star lay dying.

Also the icon`s chief of staff Michael Amir has not been questioned.

Lawyer Carl Douglas, who represents both, said: "We arranged two occasions for investigators to meet my clients.

"The first meeting was rescheduled. The second I had to call them to inquire about the detectives` absence."

After SRK episode, Salman Khan cancels his US trip

Learning lessons from Shahrukh Khan episode, Bollywood star Salman Khan has cancelled his upcoming trip to New York to promote his latest movie 'Wanted', besides participating in the auction of his personal paintings to raise funds for his charity.Organisers and promoters associated with the event cited Shahrukh Khan`s episode at Newark Airport early this month, where he was questioned by immigration officials and taken for a second screening, as a major reason for Salman to cancel his New York trip scheduled in early September.

The event was scheduled for September 3 in New York. The promoters were also in talks with local organisers in cities like Chicago, Houston and Dallas for his other events.

"However, after the Shahrukh Khan event, Salman informed us that he would not like to take the risk of coming to the US at this point," an informed source involved with the planning and organising the September 3 event told reporters.

It is understood that Salman`s decision was also propelled by what his aid alleged "the hard time" being given by the US Consulate in Mumbai in approving the visa of his close associates, including one of his family members, whom Salman wanted to bring along with on this promotional trip.

Bureau ReportBesides Salman Khan, producer Boney Kapoor, former Bollywood star, Sridevi and Prabhu Deva were also scheduled to attend the New York meeting.

Informed sources said following the Shahrukh episode, which attracted much media publicity in both India and the US, there is a sense of reluctance among local promoters and organisers of Bollywood events to risk inviting starts from Mumbai.

Shahrukh had alleged that he was detained and questioned at the airport for nearly two hours as his name popped up on the computer of the immigration counter.

He alleged that he was subject to questioning as his last name was Khan, a charge denied by the US Customs and Border Patrol.

Shakira goes wild, `unorthodox` in her new music video

Shakira is all set to go wild in the video of her upcoming music album. The video will feature the 32-year-old throwing kicks and angry glances at the camera.

Fox News quoted Shakira as saying: "I`m less shy now that I hit my 30`s. After that happens you feel a little bit more free, you accept yourself in many different ways and your more comfortable in your own flesh.”

However, the Colombian lass will continue to set the screen ablaze by her sexy dance moves.

She said: "I`m not a trained dancer. I did a little bit of gymnastic when I was 12; everything else it’s just me feeling the music. But I do have an unorthodox ways to approve my music or test it."

"When I`m in the studio and I`m producing my own music, [I`ve got to] make sure I connect to it at a physical level. My body has to move and my hips have to move and if I don`t see that kind of reaction, that physical reaction, then I know that something is not working," she added.

Madonna booed in Bucharest for defending Gypsies

At first, fans politely applauded the Roma performers sharing a stage with Madonna. Then the pop star condemned widespread discrimination against Roma, or Gypsies — and the cheers gave way to jeers. The sharp mood change that swept the crowd of 60,000, who had packed a park for Wednesday night`s concert, underscores how prejudice against Gypsies remains deeply entrenched across Eastern Europe.

Despite long-standing efforts to stamp out rampant bias, human rights advocates say Roma probably suffer more humiliation and endure more discrimination than any other people group on the continent.

Sometimes, it can be deadly: In neighboring Hungary, six Roma have been killed and several wounded in a recent series of apparently racially motivated attacks targeting small countryside villages predominantly settled by Gypsies.

"There is generally widespread resentment against Gypsies in Eastern Europe. They have historically been the underdog," Radu Motoc, an official with the Soros Foundation Romania, said Thursday.

Roma, or Gypsies, are a nomadic ethnic group believed to have their roots in the Indian subcontinent. They live mostly in southern and eastern Europe, but hundreds of thousands have migrated west over the past few decades in search of jobs and better living conditions.

Romania has the largest number of Roma in the region. Some say the population could be as high as 2 million, although official data put it at 500,000.

Until the 19th century, Romanian Gypsies were slaves, and they`ve gotten a mixed response ever since: While discrimination is widespread, many East Europeans are enthusiastic about Gypsy music and dance, which they embrace as part of the region`s cultural heritage.

That explains why the Roma musicians and a dancer who had briefly joined Madonna onstage got enthusiastic applause. And it also may explain why some in the crowd turned on Madonna when she paused during the two-hour show — a stop on her worldwide "Sticky and Sweet" tour — to touch on their plight.

"It has been brought to my attention ... that there is a lot of discrimination against Romanies and Gypsies in general in Eastern Europe," she said. "It made me feel very sad."

Thousands booed and jeered her.

A few cheered when she added: "We don`t believe in discrimination ... we believe in freedom and equal rights for everyone." But she got more boos when she mentioned discrimination against homosexuals and others.

"I jeered her because it seemed false what she was telling us. What business does she have telling us these things?" said Ionut Dinu, 23.

Madonna did not react and carried on with her concert, held near the hulking palace of the late communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

Her publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said Madonna and other had told her there were cheers as well as jeers.

"Madonna has been touring with a phenomenal troupe of Roma musicians who made her aware of the discrimination toward them in several countries so she felt compelled to make a brief statement," Rosenberg said in an e-mail. "She will not be issuing a further statement."

One Roma musician said the attitude toward Gypsies is contradictory.

"Romanians watch Gypsy soap operas, they like Gypsy music and go to Gypsy concerts," said Damian Draghici, a Grammy Award-winner who has performed with James Brown and Joe Cocker.

"But there has been a wave of aggression against Roma people in Italy, Hungary and Romania, which shows me something is not OK," he told the AP in an interview. "The politicians have to do something about it. People have to be educated not to be prejudiced. All people are equal, and that is the message politicians must give."

Nearly one in two of Europe`s estimated 12 million Roma claimed to have suffered an act of discrimination over the past 12 months, according to a recent report by the Vienna-based EU Fundamental Rights Agency. The group says Roma face "overt discrimination" in housing, health care and education.

Many do not have official identification, which means they cannot get social benefits, are undereducated and struggle to find decent jobs.

Roma children are more likely to drop out of school than their peers from other ethnic groups. Many Romanians label Gypsies as thieves, and many are outraged by those who beg or commit petty crimes in Western Europe, believing they spoil Romania`s image abroad.

In May 2007, Romanian President Traian Basescu was heard to call a Romanian journalist a "stinky Gypsy" during a conversation with his wife. Romania`s anti-discrimination board criticized Basescu, who later apologized.

Human rights activists say the attacks in Hungary, which began in July 2008, may be tied to that country`s economic crisis and the rising popularity of far-right vigilantes angered by a rash of petty thefts and other so-called "Gypsy crime." Last week, police arrested four suspects in a nightclub in the eastern city of Debrecen.

Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia also have been criticized for widespread bias against Roma.

Madonna`s outrage touched a nerve in Romania, but it seems doubtful it will change anything, said the Soros Foundation`s Motoc.

"Madonna is a pop star. She is not an expert on interethnic relations," he said.

Jackson family told cops about drugs: Warrant

Police who searched Michael Jackson`s home the day after he died were acting on information from family members who said they`d found a bag of heroin in his bedroom, but a person with knowledge of subsequent test results on the substance said it turned out not to be the drug.

The search did, however, turn up a number of other drugs including marijuana, the generic form of Valium and other sedatives. A detective also indicated Jackson`s body showed signs of injections.

The disclosure came in an affidavit supporting a search warrant that was executed June 26, three days earlier than any previously reported search of Jackson`s rented mansion in Bel-Air.

Two warrants came to light Thursday after several media outlets including The Associated Press asked to unseal four search warrants Los Angeles police detectives served in the early days of the Jackson death probe. The judge ordered two of the documents to remain sealed.

The unsealed warrants provide a glimpse into how police were directing their investigation immediately after Jackson`s death. The warrant served at his rented Bel-Air mansion the day after he died lists "PC 187," the California penal code for murder, in the box labeled "probable crime."

That warrant states family members told a coroner`s official "they had located a quantity of tar heroin in a bag in the decedent`s bedroom," though the person with knowledge of tests on the substance said heroin was quickly ruled out. The person was not authorized to speak to the media and asked for anonymity.

Detectives also secured a search warrant for the car of Dr. Conrad Murray, the personal physician with Jackson when he died. The affidavit states detectives spoke to Murray in the hospital after the singer`s death but he only gave a short summary of what had happened then left the hospital over detectives` objections.

In the intervening two months, investigators have pieced together a much fuller picture of how Jackson died and Murray has emerged as the central figure in a manslaughter probe. Investigators believe he was negligent in administering the powerful anesthetic propofol and other sedatives to Jackson and that those drugs killed the singer.

Murray`s attorney Edward Chernoff has said Murray never administered anything that "should have" killed Jackson. The coroner has not officially released autopsy results but a law enforcement official who requested anonymity because the investigation is ongoing told the AP the death has been ruled a homicide.

The search of Murray`s car turned up some documents, but no additional drugs.

Also Thursday, an attorney for Jackson`s longtime dermatologist does not plan to petition for a role in the upbringing of the singer`s three children. Mark Vincent Kaplan said Dr. Arnold Klein is satisfied that a judge appointed an attorney to oversee their interests.

Kaplan surprised many by saying Klein wanted a role in the children`s lives during a court hearing earlier this month. Jackson`s mother, Katherine Jackson, was granted permanent guardianship of the children at the hearing, and a judge ruled that Klein didn`t have legal standing to intervene, but told the doctor he could file a motion later if he still had concerns.

Kaplan said Klein got involved because he was concerned about the children having a normal upbringing not related to show business. Jackson told Klein repeatedly that he wanted his children to have a formal education and not be subjected to the rigors of traveling and performing, Kaplan said.

Klein`s involvement in the case raised questions about the whether the doctor could be the father of Jackson`s two oldest children, a rumor fueled by tabloid reports and Klein`s own cryptic answers when questioned on the matter.
