Review: ‘Kaminey’ bowls you over with its power packed performance!

Though a lot has been written about Shahid’s jinxed personal and professional life, however, with ‘Kaminey’, the chocolate boy actor finally comes of age and silences his critics once for all! Post ‘Omkara’, director Vishal Bhardwaj has once again delivered a powerful flick that completely bowls you over with its splendid script, riveting narrative and stellar performances by lead pair- Shahid and Priyanka. Both the actors have a cracking on-screen chemistry that certainly reminds you of yesteryears on-screen couples.

Kaminey’ is a powerful film based on the single day in the life of twin brothers who share a strange love and hate relationship. Vishal Bhardwaj has done a commendable job by giving a dark and gloomy treatment to the movie. One thing is for sure that ‘Kaminey’ is an engrossing flick that does not let you move from your seat!

‘Kaminey’ is not a typical cheesy Bollywood movie but a fantastic affair that offers a rare tribute to the likes of Coen Brothers, Guy Ritchie and Taratino. ‘Kaminey’ is the story about Guddu and Charlie (both played by Shahid Kapur). If the former is a stammering peaceful common man, Charlie is just the opposite – a hotheaded lisping stud who believes in overnight riches.

However, ‘Kaminey’ comes with a twist, Guddu has to marry a Marathi politician’s (Amol Gupte) sister Sweety (Priyanka Chopra) and Charlie must hunt for buyers for cocaine which he steals from the corrupt cops. Yet, the story does not end here, as Guddu has to face the wrath of Marathi politician who cannot see his sister marrying a non-Maharashtrian and Charlie battles with cops as well as with a bunch of drug dealers headed by Tashi (Tenzing Nima). The drama heightens when both the brothers get swapped and end up with wrong persons! Now, the only way out for twin brothers is to finally meet. Will Charlie mend his ways and give up his ‘get rich’ dreams? Will Guddu unite with the love of his life? Will both the brothers unite? Well, you need to wait and watch this great flick.

Apart from acting, ‘Kaminey’ is a musical treat that comes with Vishal Bhardwaj’s brilliant background score and Tassaduq Hussain’s splendid cinematography that evokes the dark underbelly regions of Mumbai.

Whether it is Shahid as Guddu and Charlie or Priyanka Chopra as Sweety, both the actors have delivered a commendable performance. Apart from the lead pair, ‘Kaminey’ is the debut vehicle for Amole Gupte and Chandan Roy and both the actors prove their mettle by delivering power packed performances.

Aamir’s wife suffers miscarriage

Aamir Khan’s wife Kiran Rao suffered from a miscarriage a few days, according to Aamir who released this news on his blog.

Aamir wrote on his blog,”I have bad news folks. Kiran and I lost our baby. Despite our best efforts we were unable to avert a miscarriage. The last two months have been a struggle for us and that is one of the reasons I was absent from the blog in more ways than one. I need time to heal. I will be away for a while.”

Kiran was three months pregnant when she suffered a miscarriage.

Kaminey release postponed in Mumbai

With Swine Flu at its peak in Pune and Mumbai, the government had decided to close all the cinemas in the two cities so that the flu cannot spread. This has resulted in the delay in releasing Kaminey.

Shahid Kapoor,lead actor of Kaminey respects the decision of the government and is hoping that by Sunday, “Everything will go back to normal in Mumbai and Pune.”

With the theatres being closed down, Mumbaites need to wait a little longer to see Shahid in action.

Meanwhile we hope Fwine flu(in Charlie’s words) doesn’t harm the flick much.

Rakhi doesn’t connect with Elesh

While Rakhi choose Elesh as her life partner on her reality show, she recently revealed that she has not been able to connect with him.

Rakhi says, “I have met Elesh just twice after the show. Once we went out for a coffee and next when he came over to my house on Sunday for a party I had thrown for friends. I hardly know him well enough. How can I say he is the one for me?”

According to the latest news, SRK and the team of his next venture ‘MNIK’ are reportedly continuing with the shoot of the film despite the increasing swine flu scare across the nation.

A source revealed that the shooting of ‘MNIK’ continued to take place in Filmistan Studio, Goregaon, despite the swine flu alert. The studio was reportedly booked for Dharma Productions as the set for SRK starrer was being prepared.

However, the Maharashtra government recently announced a weeklong closure for educational institutions and public places in this metropolis to curb the spread of the H1N1 virus. But Bollywood, as of now, seems to be handling the epidemic quite bravely.

Releasing date of Vipul Shah’s Action Replay starring Akshay Kumar andAishwarya Rai is delaying due to extended shooting schedule of Raavana. Vipul was planning to release the film in October, but having Aishwarya to shoot extra portions for Raavana has spoiled his plans.

According to sources the film is based on Hollywood hit The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. And Aishwarya needed to shoot three more songs for it. By confirming the news director said, “Yes, what you have heard is true. A fortnight from Aishwarya is needed to shoot three songs. I’m sure she’s as eager to complete the film as I am. Unfortunately, Raavana has taken far more of her time than she had expected. Besides, she is also shooting for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, so I have no option, but to wait.”

Now, Vipul might get Ash’s dates in September, but it should also match with Akshay, who is very busy. “Both Aishwarya and Akshay are very professional. We’ll soon sort out the dates and as Akshay is also the co-producer of Action Replay, he has an added incentive to give me the dates,” added Vipul.

With his changed plans on movie release, Vipul said, “I will only be able to release Action Replay next year. I had initially planned it for October which was later pushed to December first week. But now I don’t want to releaseAction Replay in December even though I am sure it’ll be completed by then.”

Adding further Vipul said, “I can’t release my film just a week after Akshay’sDe Dana Dan, releasing on November 27. Two of Akki’s film can not be released in two successive weeks and my other film London Dreams is also releasing on October 30.”

During the shoot of Boney Kapoor’s Wanted at Bandra Fort, Salman found a street beggar familiar. Coincidently the beggar was the very person from whom Sallu used to buy the kites in his childhood at Bandstand, Bandra. Then he handed over 25K, clothes and food to him.

A source said, “Apparently, Salman used to buy kites from him as a child. He hadn’t seen him for years and now suddenly after 20 years to have spotted him in this state…”

“But Salman is a very generous guy. The beggar was eternally grateful,” added the source.

“Salman Khan did lots of for children, slum children, orphans and the handicapped, but doesn’t like to unfold it. He quietly does his bit for society, but unfortunately, he’s reprimanded more as the ‘Bad boy of Bollywood’ than applauded as Mr Nice Guy!” adds the source.

Instead, Ramu felt that he (Dhoni) is some wannable actor approaching him. More interestingly he said to Dhoni, “Please take my office number. Drop off your photos there.”

Ramu left Dhoni confused. It was an embarrassing situation for the cricketer. Later when asked to Ramu, he denied that he told Dhoni to drop photographs, but agreed that he treated him like a wannable actor. “Yes, it’s true. I’m hopelessly ignorant about cricket. Only after he left, the people with me told that he’s Dhoni. I would like to apologize to him when I will meet him.”

But the fact is that Ramu still thinks that actors are eager to work with him, even after Agyaat.

Leona Lewis left petrified by bunch of tarantulas

Brit pop singer Leona Lewis was recently left petrified when a bunch of dreaded tarantulas decided to show up on the set of a photoshoot for the cover of her upcoming second album.

Lewis, 24, was shooting on a cliff top in Malibu, California, when someone on the set disturbed a nest of the poisonous spiders, leaving the singer shrieking in fear.

The shoot had to be shut down for two hours until pest control had made the area safe, and only then did she dare return to take up her position in front of the camera.

"Someone on the set had disturbed the spiders` nest and they had come out to see what all the commotion was about," the Sun quoted a source as saying.

"Leona was the first to see them and was petrified - frozen in fear and shrieking.

"For someone who professes to be such a nature lover, it was a bit of an unexpected reaction. But she was terrified of being bitten," the source added.

Kourtney Kardashian’s attempts to keep the name of her baby’s dad from leaking may have been blown after her long-time on-and-off beau was reported to be the father of the unborn child.



The American reality TV star, who is pregnant with her first kid, has been keeping the lid on who is the real daddy so that the revelation could be made on the next season of "Keeping Up with the Kardashians."

But sources claimed her beau Scott Disick, with whom she temporarily split last season, is the baby’s father.

British pop star Lily Allen is afraid that she may never be able to quit smoking, as she is "addicted" to nicotine.The Smile singer said she couldn’t stop smoking after she miscarried boyfriend Ed Simons` baby in 2007 even though the habit had made her feel physically sick.

Now she feels she will keep smoking forever.

"I can`t stop. I never could... When I was pregnant I gave up, and I`ve been hypnotised a few times," Contactmusic quoted her as telling a magazine.

Indian filmmakers Meera Nair and Shekhar Kapur`s short films will be a part of the star studded cinema ensemble `I Love New York`.The feature film which pays tribute to the city has films directed by 12 helmers, from the acclaimed Indian directors to newcomers Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson, reported Ace Showbiz.

While Meera Nair`s story stars Natalie Portman and `Slumdog Millionaire` actor Irrfan Khan, Shekhar Kapur directed `Transformers` star Shia Le Bouf for his segment.

The film which is a collection of several love stories set in the city, from the Upper East Side to the hoods of Brooklyn, is similar to `Paris, je t`aime`, which revolved around the European city.

The cast includes some of the biggest names in Hollywood like Robin Wright Penn, Bradley Cooper, Andy Garcia, Hayden Christensen, Natalie Portman and Orlando Bloom.

Shabana Azmi, Priya Dutt bond for a Cause

t`s two women from illustrious backgrounds out to do a good deed. When actress-social activist Shabana Azmi had to invite someone to hand over the keys of homes of a large rehabilitation project, she didn`t have to think twice - she called MP Priya Dutt.
"This was the fourth phase of our housing scheme. It is the largest rehabilitation project in Asia. And we requested Priya Dutt to hand over the keys. It was quite touching to see us two daughters carrying on the legacy of our fathers," Shabana told reporters.

Shabana chose Priya for this occasion because of their mutual commitment to social welfare.

"My NGO Nivara Hakk has given 12,000 homes for free to slum dwellers ousted from Borivali National Park. It`s tripartite pact among the government of Maharashtra, the private builder Sumer Corporation and Nivara Hakk," Shabana said.

"And it was very nice to have Priya along. She is the MP of the area and shares our vision of what needs to be done for the upgradation of slums. It`s a huge project and we wish to build alliances with like minded people like Priya," said the actress.

Shabana received the coveted Gandhi Foundation International Peace Award 2006 for her noteworthy two-decade struggle for slum dwellers through her movement Nivara Hakk.

Known to be an outstanding public speaker, Shabana was impressed by Priya`s oratorical skills. "I heard Priya speak in public for the first time. I was very moved. She sounded as sincere and honest as Dutt saab."

Earlier, Sunil Dutt and Shabana had been jointly involved in various projects in their political and non-political capacities.

Shabana and Priya have, in fact, formed a new bonding of like-minded sisters who are unified in their penchant for social causes that they`ve inherited from their father Kaifi Azmi and Sunil Dutt, respectively.

I will stick to comedy, says Rajpal Yadav

Rajpal Yadav, known for his antics in films like "Bhootnath", "Mujhse Shaadi Karogi", says he doesn`t have any plans to move away from his favourite genre."I will stick to comedy as along as I can... I`m not allergic to serious role. But comedy is the need of the hour... it works as a pain reliever and as a stress buster," he said.

"Comedy and comic roles should not be taken for granted as big Bollywood stars like Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar are doing comedy," he added.

Rahman, British university join hands

Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman has joined hands with Britain`s Middlesex University for a programme focussing on blending Asian and Western music.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between Rahman`s Chennai-based KM Music Conservatory and the university that may also look at opportunities to provide a collaborative three-year music programme, said a press statement released Thursday.

Rahman, who has also been awarded an honorary doctorate by the university, thinks of the collaboration in music instruction "as a great bridge between Indian and Western music".

Middlesex University offers programmes in music composition, music management, music performance, and jazz and popular music.

Justin Timberlake did not buy $18.7m Connecticut estate

After reports of American pop singer Justin Timberlake closing a deal on an 18.7-million-dollar mansion in Connecticut surfaced, the home’s realtor has come out to deny them.

A news daily had reported that Timberlake, 28, had closed the deal on the 13,500 square foot Greenwich estate, which sits on 25.5 acres and features a spa, pool and pool house.

“He absolutely, positively did not buy that house,” a website quoted Brad Hvolbeck of Prudential Douglas Elliman as saying.

The singer and his girlfriend Jessica Biel had purchased a 4.7-million-dollar condo in New York City’s Tribeca neighbourhood just last fall.
