MJ turned to ‘self-harm’ in weeks before his death

Michael Jackson intentionally hurt himself in a desperate bid to feed his drug addiction, according to reports.

The King of Pop allegedly turned to “self-harm” in the weeks before his death on June 25 to persuade his personal physician Dr Conrad Murray to give him painkillers, including strong anaesthetic Demerol.

The singer, who reportedly spent 30,000-pounds a month on prescription drugs, purportedly went to extreme measures as part of his drug hell.

His drug induced side-effects reportedly included shaking fits, violent outbursts, hallucinations and bouts of wailing during the night.

“LAPD detectives have interviewed some 30-35 witnesses so far, and it has come to light that Michael was prone to self-harming,” the Mirror quoted a source close to the police investigation as saying.

“He’d bang his head against the wall, hit his fists and arms against furniture, anything to cause a cut or bruise.

“He wanted to convince his doctors that he’d had an accident and was in a lot of pain – a legitimate reason to ask for painkillers.

“This came up as part of the investigation into Michael’s drug-taking. So far there’s no evidence to prove or disprove the claims,” the source added.

A Jackson family source claimed that the music legend at times invented pain or hurt himself and craved attention when he fell ill.

The source said: “Staff had their suspicions that he sometimes invented pain or hurt himself to get attention.

The source added: “Michael self-harmed mainly as an attention-seeking mechanism or to gain sympathy. He enjoyed being cared for. It was a huge cry for help.”

While packing up in the evening, he learnt that his good friend Hrithik too was shooting in the same studio. So he thought of catching up with him. However, when Vivek learnt that Hrithik was shooting for ‘Guzaarish,’ he contemplated whether he should pop in. He was apprehensive as he did not want to come face-to-face with Aishwarya, whom he was once dating. Only when he confirmed that Aishwarya was not present on the sets, did he go to meet Hrithik.”

The source further maintained, “Both Hrithik and Vivek have not been in touch with each other due to their professional commitments. Of late, they have only met each other at social events and parties, so they had a lot of catching up to do. They chatted about everything, from their films to personal lives, for almost two hours. Even Bhansali joined in their conversation.”

Jeetendra lands up in land row

Yesteryears` actor Jeetendra is in a land row. Some builders have allegedly used muscle power to take possession of a piece of land the actor says he purchased on behalf of Balaji Telefilms and used local police force to intimidate the senior actor`s staff.

"How can they do this to us in a city like Mumbai? We bought the land after four land searches. Then we bought the land and got all the proper documents. We also gave an ad in the paper saying, if anyone has any claim over the land, please come forward. Having done all that some builders have come forward to claim it`s their land," angry Ekta Kapoor, Jeetendra`s daughter, told IANS.

"Shockingly, they came to our land Tuesday with cops and took our people to jail. The cops have illegally removed our people when we`ve all the papers. Because the other builder is a goon, they`ve put my people in jail," she added.

The incident took place Tuesday evening at Mira Road in Thane district. Ekta and his family are planning to sue the police.

Balaji`s lawyer Sandeep Singh Sidhu said: "There is a status quo order by the Mumbai High Court. Without honouring that particular order...I think the local police was approached by RNA and they tried to dispossess us forcibly at around 5 pm on Tuesday."

SRK`s detention raises questions about US procedures: Tharoor

Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor Wednesday said Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan`s detention at a US airport "raised real questions about US procedures".

This also happens to hundreds of innocent Muslims daily who do not have a billion people to stand up for them, Tharoor told reporters when asked about Khan`s detention at Newark international airport in US Saturday.

Tharoor was interacting with the media here after delivering a lecture on India`s foreign policy at Aligarh Muslim University.

The incident involving Khan sparked massive public outrage in India. The actor himself has called it an "embarrassing" episode.

Tharoor is not the first minister to speak out against Khan`s questioning at the Newark airport in New Jersey Aug 15. Home Minister P. Chidambaram Monday had said the Americans had "overdone it" by detaining Khan for two hours for questioning.

Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel also said the government would take up the issue with the US government at its highest level.

Elton John heads off to St Tropez for holiday

Brit singer-songwriter Elton John has followed in the footsteps of other stars, and headed off to St. Tropez for a holiday.

John, 62, has been busy with his shows in Las Vegas, and it is only now that he has been able to join his partner David Furnish, who has been at the posh French resort since last month, reports the Mirror.

The singer, who is taking a break before he kicks off a Canadian tour next month, was seen heading for the beach as soon as he got there.

Other celebrities who recently visited the summer celeb retreat were Jack Nicholson, Lily Allen, and Kate Moss.

Shah Rukh prays for Amar Singh`s mental health!

Shah Rukh Khan says he tries to follow the rules and has been strip-searched several times while travelling within the US.

But the two-hour detention at Newark airport was different, says Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, with authorities asking "bizarre and embarrassing" questions instead of following routine security measures.

"I am scared of the authorities and rules so I try to follow the rules of the country I travel to. Whenever I am in America, I have to report at least two hours in advance while travelling within the country for security reasons -- they ask me to take off my clothes and shoes, and I do that," Shah Rukh told reporters here Tuesday, four days after he was detained at the Newark airport.

"But I never experienced this kind of treatment. It was embarrassing... I`ve never been asked such questions."

"There are some routine security measures - they check your fingerprints and scan your retina. But the routine security process was not followed. Instead, the authorities asked me bizarre and irrelevant questions. I am not trying to make a point here, but why were security measures not followed?" he asked.

Shah Rukh said he quietly followed the instructions of the authorities.

"I didn`t say a word there because I have a sense of humour which might lead to something... I don`t want special treatment. I was not angry and I was not disturbed."

"The security of any country is important but caste, religion or race shouldn`t come in the way of security measures. You may call me a mega star, a celebrity, but basically I`m just a normal guy. But I`m lucky that I have access to friends in the (Indian) consulate whom I could call up. But there are hundreds of others who don`t have this facility," Shah Rukh pointed out.

The actor denied that the detention and the publicity that followed was a publicity stunt for his forthcoming movie "My Name Is Khan".

He said: "It`s not a publicity stunt. My film is coming almost nine months later and it`s not a matter of pride to be questioned at the airport. I do not want to sound pompous, but Shah Rukh Khan does not need any publicity for any promotion. I don`t need it either for a film or for myself."

To Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh`s allegation that he had blown the matter out of proportion to publicise his forthcoming film, Shah Rukh retorted with a tongue-in-cheek reply: "Amar Singh is unwell, and I pray that he recovers soon with a healthy body and strong mind."

Commenting on Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni advocating a tit-for-tat policy with the US after what he went through, Shah Rukh said her comments indicated that the government was looking into the larger problem.

Shah Rukh, known for his humour, added: "If you want to give a tit-for-tat policy to American actors, then call me to frisk Angelina Jolie and Megan Fox whenever they are visiting India."

Robin Wright Penn files for divorce

After two false alarms, it looks like Hollywood couple Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn are finally going to part ways, with the actress having filed for divorce.

The A-list couple who have had a tumultuous relationship, have finally decided to call it quits, reported People magazine.

The divorce papers, filed in California earlier last week states that the reason for the split was "irreconcilable differences."

The papers also state that `both parties have already agreed to (shared) custody of their son Hopper Jack, 16, and that "the estranged couple have already agreed to division of

all property."

The high profile couple who have been together since 1989 and married in 1996, have filed papers to initiate divorce on two other occasions.

In June, the Academy winning actor had reportedly dropped out of two big-ticket movie projects to focus on his family life.

Wright Penn was nominated for a Golden Globe for 1994`s Forrest Gump and Penn has been nominated for an Oscar five times and won twice, most recently for 2008`s `Milk`.

The singer-turned actress had ruled out any chances of a reconciliation by saying, "I hit that crossroad a while ago. I know what I don`t want."

Hrithik Roshan offers help to paraplegics

Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan was so moved after meeting people affected with paraplegia while researching for his role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s ‘Guzaarish’ that he has decided to help them in whatever way he can.

Hrithik is playing a paraplegic in ‘Guzaarish’ and met patients to be able to get under the skin of his character. While meetings the patients helped him understand his character better, it also left a deep impact on his mind.

"Hrithik is taking his role very seriously and has been reading a lot on paraplegia and watching videos to understand and study their mannerisms and behaviour. In fact, he even visited several people affected by the disease to get a first hand account of their experiences," said a source close to the actor.

"The intensive study and frequent interactions with people suffering from the disorder have moved Hrithik to a great extent. He came across some young, talented people who were left incapacitated due to paraplegia and he immediately decided to do his bit to help them," added the source.

Aishwarya Rai is playing female lead in the film.

Katona’s ex-hubby may fight for children’s custody

Kerry Katona’s ex-hubby Brian McFadden does not want his children to stay with their mother and has almost made up his mind to fight for their custody rights, it has emerged.

The former Westlife star is enraged that Katona snorted cocaine while the children were at home. He believes the children are no longer safe with the drug addict mum and is already talking to his fiancée Delta Goodrem and lawyers about the custody issue.

Penn and Wright agree to division of property

Robin Wright and husband Sean Penn have already agreed on how they will divide property in their divorce, according to court records.

Wright, 43, filed for divorce Aug. 12 in San Rafael, Calif, citing irreconcilable differences with Penn, 49, her husband of more than a decade. The couple have agreed to share custody of their 16-year-old son Hopper Jack.

The couple also has an 18-year-old daughter, Dylan Francis.

Publicists for Wright and Penn didn`t immediately return e-mails seeking comment Wednesday. A message for Wright`s lawyer, Bruce Clemens, was also not immediately returned.

The couple, married in April 1996, have filed for separation or divorce twice before, only to dismiss their petitions.

Penn asked for separation as recently as April. But he later withdrew the petition, telling the New York Daily News the filing was "an arrogant mistake."

The couple met on the set of the 1990 Irish mob movie 'State of Grace.' Penn had previously married and divorced Madonna, and Wright was married once before to former soap star Dane Witherspoon.

They attended the Academy Awards together in February when Penn received an Oscar for his role in 'Milk.' But he didn`t thank Wright in his acceptance speech.

It was Penn`s second Oscar. He had won previously for his role in "Mystic River."
