Shiney withdraws bail plea

Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja, facing charges of raping his domestic help, on Friday withdrew his bail petition filed in a sessions court since the case has been transferred to a fast track court. He will now have to file a fresh petition in the fast track court to seek bail, Ahuja`s lawyer Srikant Shivade told reporters.

Principal judge MT Joshi had yesterday announced the transfer of the case to a fast track court in Sewri.

Chief Minister Ashok Chavan had assured to put the trial on the fast track soon after the arrest of the actor.

Ahuja`s earlier bail plea had been rejected on July 8 by a sessions court which held that prima facie case was made out against him.

36-year-old Ahuja had sought bail on the ground that his custody was not required by police at this stage as investigations were over and charge sheet had been filed.

The actor, currently lodged in Arthur Road jail, was arrested on June 15 for allegedly raping his maid servant at his residence in suburban Oshivara.

His lawyer Srikant Shivade had earlier claimed that the entire case against the actor had been "concocted" and alleged that a conspiracy had been hatched to wrongly implicate the actor in the crime.
